What You Need To Know About Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF)

Diesel Particulate Filters are fitted to some diesel vehicles manufactured after 2008 and all diesel-engined vehicles registered from 2011 onwards. Diesel particulate filters are necessary to reduce the amount of harmful particles released from diesel vehicles.

Although particulate filters are very effective in reducing the amount of particulates emitted from diesel vehicles, most filters need to burn the trapped particulates off fairly regularly, referred to as “regeneration”.

How often do I need to regenerate DPF?

Active regeneration will be initiated every 300 miles or so depending on how you use your car and will take 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

What are the signs of a blocked DPF?

  1. You feel a loss of power in your engine (limp mode)
  2. The DPF light will appear on your dashboard
  3. Passive and active regeneration keep failing
  4. A pungent smell of diesel
  5. Automatic Stop-Starting System not working
  6. Your car seems to be releasing an excessive amount of smoke.

My tyre pressure warning light has come on, what shall I do?

Visit your local petrol station or anywhere you can check and fill your tyres up, do this before you come to us to avoid long waits and a fee.

My car has been in for service / repair and it hasn’t received a full valet.

We don’t offer a full valet at Holdcroft Nissan, this is an upgrade option with a fee. The wash and vac is a simple clean and tidy up

How do I know when my service or MOT is due?

Your Nissan vehicle normally tells you when its service is due, however diesel models will need a service every 18,000 miles and petrol models every 12,000

How does stop/start work?

This system installed automatically shuts down and restarts to reduce the amount of time the engine is idling; this can happen if waiting in traffic for a long time or when turning the car on and off. For a full demonstration ask your sales executive on your handover

My aircon isn’t working in my car?

Air-con doesn’t work just in the summer, as annually you loose 15% throughout the year. Winter is the best time to get this checked or cleaned.
