Nissan Qashqai e-POWER Wins Top Honors at News UK Motor Awards 2024

The Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER has captured significant industry recognition in the News UK Motor Awards 2024, taking home the "Best-in-Class" award from The Sun, The Sunday Times, and driving.co.uk for its innovative, electrified powertrain.

This achievement highlights a milestone year for Nissan and the British-made Qashqai, as the top-selling crossover not only received a comprehensive update but also played a starring role in an acclaimed marketing campaign. Since its launch in September 2022, Nissan has sold over 140,000 Qashqai e-POWER models, with drivers embracing the electric-drive experience made possible by its unique technology.

Rob Gill, The Sun’s Motors Editor, expressed enthusiasm about the Qashqai's innovation: “Qashqai is the car that started it all, and now the clever e-POWER system raises the bar again. It gives you all the perks of an electric car without the usual drawbacks like recharging. The petrol engine charges the battery, while the electric motor powers the wheels. We averaged an impressive 46 mpg over 700 miles—a remarkable feat for a family SUV—and it's designed, engineered, and built in Britain.”

e-POWER: An Advanced, Effortless Driving Experience

The Qashqai’s e-POWER system stands apart from traditional hybrids by driving the wheels solely through an electric motor, creating a pure EV-like experience without needing to plug in. This makes it a great option for drivers who want advanced technology and efficiency but aren’t ready to commit to a fully electric vehicle.

The turbocharged three-cylinder engine serves a single purpose: to generate electricity. This energy is sent via an inverter to the 140kW electric motor or the 1.8kWh battery, depending on the driving situation, supplying power smoothly based on the car’s speed without disrupting cabin sound.

Diana Torres, Managing Director of Nissan GB, said: "We’re thrilled that the new Qashqai, powered by Nissan’s unique e-POWER technology, outperformed its hybrid competitors in the highly competitive News UK Motor Awards 2024. It’s immensely meaningful to be recognized by some of the UK’s leading publications and their motoring experts.

“Nissan pioneered the crossover segment with the launch of the Qashqai in 2007, and today’s models represent a huge evolution from those early designs. The introduction of e-POWER technology in 2022 was a transformative moment for the Qashqai, and the car continues to be a cornerstone for Nissan and a favourite among our customers.”

A Standout Year for the Qashqai

In addition to these accolades, Nissan's recent marketing campaign drew attention from both the public and industry insiders. The campaign, which included placing a life-sized Qashqai replica atop the Truman Brewery chimney in East London, received high praise and underscored the model’s cultural impact and appeal.

With its state-of-the-art e-POWER technology and industry recognition, the Nissan Qashqai continues to lead the crossover segment, offering drivers an impressive blend of innovation, efficiency, and everyday practicality.
