The Kangoo has been around since 1997, and throughout its two generations it has been possible to buy it in a fully electric variant. With the world of electrified commercial vehicles having exploded since the introduction of the previous generation, a majority of commercial manufacturers are selling their vehicles in fully electric variants. This means that the latest Renault Kangoo E-Tech has some stiff competition. Luckily for the Kangoo E-Tech, we don’t think this will be a problem.
The Kangoo E-Tech comes equipped with a 45kWh lithium-ion battery with a fully useable capacity of 45kWh, which gives it a range of 186 miles on a single charge. This will make it cheaper to run than petrol counterparts and in terms of range, it is class leading. Range is helped further by different driving modes that optimise regenerative breaking to convert kinetic energy into electrical energy, and a heat pump to precondition the battery to operate within optimal conditions. On top of all of this, the Kangoo E-Tech is equipped with 80kW Rapid Charging, which means it can charge from 0-80% in just 42 minutes!
As far as the van itself is concerned, it takes on a new design language that looks sleeker and more sculpted than its predecessor, with a choice of short and long wheelbase variants. The interior is designed to be as carlike as possible, with a horizontal dashboard which is both stylish and useful thanks to plenty of storage space, and redesigned seats that make long journeys more comfortable. Not only this, but the Kangoo E-Tech is fitted with a variety of convenience and safety features, including Renault’s EASY LINK multimedia system and a permanent rear-view mirror, which uses a mirror to provide a view of the road behind, which would usually be obscured by a bulkhead.
The new Kangoo E-Tech comes with a number of features to enhance load carrying too, with Renault’s new open sesame doors, which eliminate the pillar in between the front and rear doors to create a 1.45m side opening to make it easier than ever before to load things into the back.
