MG is an up and coming brand with a range of interesting models that come well equipped, with the option of electrification across all but the MG3 models. For this category, what could have made a lot of sense is an SUV of some description thanks to the space on offer, however MG’s all electric estate, the MG5 was instead chosen due to the more practical nature of this form factor. The lower loading height means that a dog can easily get in without any hassle, and with the amount of space in the boot, no wonder the MG5 found favour with the judges!
Best Car for City Drivers 2022 - MG HS Plug-In
MG’s HS Plug-In also won an Autotrader New Car Award in the city car category. This is arguably one of the hardest categories to succeed in, given the demands on cars in cities, so the fact that the HS Plug-In won this award is very impressive. The HS Plug-In was chosen thanks to its affordability, long list of features and 32 miles of electric only range, meaning that you could easily drive in the city without using any petrol. Its immense manoeuvrability was noted, alongside parking features like the 360 degree parking making the parking a breeze.

Best Hybrid Car 2022 - Renault Arkana
With so many cars in this category nowadays, this is a very prestigious award to have received. Renault’s new Arkana is a Coupe SUV which features a self-charging hybrid powertrain which gives you excellent fuel consumption and smooth and comfortable driving, with seamless switching between petrol and electric. The Arkana was also complimented on its appearance and its tall ride height.
Dacia
Best Value Brand 2022
Dacia is a brand synonymous with value due to their philosophy of only the essentials. That is why Dacia has won this award again for the fourth time since 2018. The introduction of Dacia’s Jogger in particular, a 7 Seater SUV priced for much less than other competitors makes it hard to argue with the fact that Dacia is able to offer an awful lot of car, for not very much money.
Best Value New Car 2022 - Dacia Duster
The Dacia Duster has been around since Dacia’s introduction to the UK, and now is in its second generation. The Duster is available with a wide array of features including driver assistance and safety features, whilst still being rugged and completely capable off-road. The Duster is also an incredibly proficient family SUV, and starting from £3k less than its closest competitor, the Duster is very hard to beat in this class.
Nissan
Sustainable Initiative Award 2022
With the move towards electrification, it is becoming more and more important for manufacturers to consider sustainability and new technologies to comply with changing regulations. Nissan have consistently innovated in this field, with their introduction of the first mass market electric vehicle, the LEAF, which was introduced 11 years ago, and more recently, other electrified models such as the Qashqai E-Power and the impressive new ARIYA which will be with us shortly. That’s why Autotrader has awarded Nissan the Sustainable Initiative Award 2022!
Volvo
Best Car for Towing 2022
When towing, you need to have plenty of power as you need to be able to gain momentum in spite of having an extra tonne or two behind you. Not only this, but if you are going to be towing you are likely going to be in the car for longer, so a good tow car also needs to be incredibly comfortable. Taking all this into account, it is no surprise whatsoever that the Volvo XC40 was chosen for this award, given its luxurious interior, abundance of features to make your life as a tow car driver more comfortable and enjoyable. Not only this but given the array of powertrain options available, Mild Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid and fully Electric (which is capable of towing up to 1.6 tonnes), the Volvo XC40 is the winner in this category rightly so!
