Hyundai have finally announced the long awaited IONIQ 6, the second model in their dedicated IONIQ all electric sub brand. The IONIQ 6 is described by Hyundai as an Electrified Streamliner, which is aerodynamically sculpted to provide maximum efficiency, whilst the interior features an array of sustainable materials which reflect changing consumer demands.

The IONIQ 6 draws inspiration from the Prophecy EV Concept, and is characterised by clean and simple lines, as well as a pure aerodynamic form which Hyundai describes as ‘Emotional Efficiency’. The IONIQ 6’s Electrified Streamliner bodystyle and cocoon-like interior are designed to signify a new era of electric vehicles, whilst the overall theme of ethical uniqueness reflects Hyundai’s commitment to energy efficiency.

The IONIQ 6 takes the Hyundai Look design strategy in order to give it a unique and striking appearance, just like the IONIQ 5, however in terms of design, both are actually quite different. Where the IONIQ 5 is very angular and features straight lines, the IONIQ 6 is a sleek, slippery 4 door coupe, in order to aid battery efficiency and reduce its drag coefficient to just 0.21. This is also thanks to other design features such as the low nose, active air flaps, wheel gap reductions and optional digital side mirrors. At the rear, the IONIQ 6 features a spoiler and winglet that further help to reduce drag coefficient.

Despite the dramatic difference in appearance between the IONIQ 5 and 6, the 6 features a number of design features that nod to the IONIQ 5. For a start, it features over 700 Parametric Pixels throughout its design, within the headlights, rear lights, lower sensors and throughout its interior to help highlight the fact that this car is unmistakably an IONIQ. The most stunning integration of the Parametric Pixel design comes in the high mounted brake light, which is incredibly distinctive and elegant.
Hyundai’s E-GMP platform has meant that the designers have been able to stretch the interior of the IONIQ 6 to ensure maximum legroom and ensure the interior is a really comfortable place to be. This also has meant a completely flat floor which again helps to ensure the space and comfort of passengers.

Inside, the IONIQ 6 comes with a cocoon shaped interior, which serves as both a comfortable and personal space, and an incredibly practical space filled with sustainable materials to provide as eco friendly experience as possible. This interior is ergonomically designed and includes a 12 inch touchscreen infotainment system and 12 inch digital driver display, which are designed to reduce distraction and encourage safe and intuitive driving. Within the interior is a bridge-like centre console which helps to provide convenient and generous in-car storage.

The Parametric Pixels are continued inside, featured within the Dual Colour Ambient Lighting. This comes with up to 64 colours and 6 dual colour themes designed to maximise interior comfort and relaxation. The 4 dot Interactive Pixel Lights on the Steering Wheel help facilitate easy communication between the driver and car.
