Hyundai have proven their commitment to electric vehicles since the introduction of the Hyundai IONIQ, that was introduced in 2016, which was initially available in Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid and Pure Electric models.
Since then, Hyundai have also introduced fully electric variants of the KONA, and another all electric model, the IONIQ 5. Hyundai is in the process of electrifying their whole range, with the intention that of introducing 11 more fully electric models by 2030, under the new IONIQ sub-brand.
Last year Hyundai introduce the IONIQ 5 SUV, an impressive fully electric SUV based on the Project 45 EV Concept that was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2019. The IONIQ 5 draws much more on the Project 45 EV Concept than models usually do and it has really pushed the boundaries of what is possible with a production car. This is something that has been acknowledged across the world, with the IONIQ 5 winning an impressive stack of awards including World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle of the Year to name a few.
Hyundai’s next model the IONIQ 6 will follow in the IONIQ 5’s footsteps. It will be based on the Hyundai Prophecy Concept, and if the example of the IONIQ 5 is anything to go off, this could be very similar to what we see in production.
The Prophecy Concept featured a striking elegant aerodynamic coupe-like exterior with large wheels and slippery front design to aid aerodynamics and improve battery efficiency. Inside, the Prophecy concept features two wide screens stacked on top of each other, and the pixel design language seen in the IONIQ 5. It is clear from these new sketches that the design from the Prophecy concept will be mirrored when it comes to market as the IONIQ 6.
