The ZOE has been around since 2012, and in that time has had three model variants, with a range of up to 239 miles on a single charge. Models all come well equipped, with a design that has stood the test of time, thanks to subtle updates. Judges complemented its smooth drive, ease of use and value for money. What Car? noted that there really is nothing in this model class on the used market that compares.
Hyundai
Best Used Hybrid Family Car
Although the Hyundai IONIQ hatchback recently left the Hyundai lineup, there are still plenty available on the used market in Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid and Pure Electric variants. With a pure EV range of up to 39 miles and excellent equipment as standard, What Car? chose the Plug-In Hybrid variant for this category. Judges found favour with it’s value for money, driving appeal when compared to rivals and it’s 5 year warranty, which means that you can buy a second hand model and still benefit.
MG
Best Used Electric Small SUV
The MG ZS EV was introduced in 2019, based on the family friendly MG ZS SUV and recently had a significant redesign, and battery upgrades. The original variant came with a range of up to 163 miles and the latest comes with a range of up to 273 miles, and with competitive pricing and excellent specifications. Overall it was the ZS EV’s excellent value for money that helped it to secure this award.
Volvo
Volvo was one of the few manufacturers to secure multiple awards and in Volvo’s case, all three of their Hybrid SUVs received an accolade to add to their collection.
Best Hybrid Small SUV
The Volvo XC40 was already named their Family SUV of the year for 2022, and given that the XC40 Recharge Plug-In Hybrid comes with up to 28 miles of pure EV range, and impressive performance, it makes sense they chose this model for this particular award. Judges found that its interior felt plush with plenty of premium equipment, as well as a spacious and comfortable interior. Unlike a lot of its competitors this powertrain hasn’t hindered the XC40 Recharge’s boot space, which means you have the same volume as the conventional petrol model.
Best Used Hybrid Large SUV
The XC60 is another impressive SUV in the Volvo range, and in the Recharge T8 guise, this means that you can get up to 46 pure electric range whilst still having a petrol engine to back this up. This powertrain setup means you can do 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, so as well as its eco credentials, the XC60 Recharge delivers driving enjoyment too. Judges were really pleased with the array of standard equipment available, which includes heated leather seats, automatic wipers and keyless start, as well as it’s impressive safety credentials.
Best Used Hybrid Luxury SUV
The third member of the Volvo SUV family is the elegant XC90. This flagship model too comes with a plug in hybrid powertrain which allows you to drive up to 40 miles on a single charge. The XC90 has a timeless design with plenty of standard equipment, safety features and most importantly, seven seats, which makes it an incredibly versatile family car for all settings.
