Being able to explore the great outdoors is an option throughout the year, but now that we are in the height of summer, there really is no better time to take a road trip! For people who live in towns and cities, there is nothing better than being able to escape to the countryside and stay in a caravan or tent, which often means having to rely on towing a trailer.
Thanks to its high towing capacity, Hyundai IONIQ 5 owners can tow without any concern, and with it’s fully electric powertrain this can be done in an environmentally friendly way. In fact, this powertrain is more than suitable to tow 1.6 tonnes, which is the equivalent of a 6 berth, 7.5m long caravan. It can do this whilst also providing 527 litres of boot space with all the seats up, and 1587 litres with the rear seats folded.
The interior of the IONIQ 5 is incredibly versatile and flexible, the rear seats can slide forward up to 135 mm in a 6:4 ratio. If that’s not enough, there is even 57 litres of space in the front trunk, which can be particularly useful for longer road trips.
Thanks to the new 77.4kWh battery pack for 2023, adventurers are able to explore even more on a single charge, with the 2WD variant capable of up to 315 miles of emission free driving on a single charge. For those looking to travel outside the summer months, the battery conditioning feature enables the IONIQ 5 to adapt the temperature of the battery automatically whilst driving to create the best charging conditions when reaching a chargepoint. This also helps to give you the best of the real life charging performance in cold weather conditions, as well as guaranteeing the best results from fast charging points.
For those experiencing zero emissions electric travel whilst towing for the first time, the IONIQ 5 offers the ability to better plan routes. Using it’s telematics system, customers can set the weight category of their trailer and the expected driving range will be adapted before the trip begins. This helps IONIQ 5 drivers to be able to plan their charging stops, ahead of time.
The IONIQ 5 comes with a 350kW charger, which can help recharge the IONIQ 5 from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes, whilst a short 8 minute stop can give the battery an additional 100 miles range (without a trailer). The need to charge gives you the opportunity to take a break from the IONIQ 5’s interior, although you might not want to give that it’s spacious interior feels like a home away from home. It’s electronically adjustable front seats recline to the optimum angle, offering a luxurious feeling of weightlessness and the perfect opportunity to lay back, relax and even take a nap.
One of the most exciting features on the IONIQ 5 is that it gives you the ultimate freedom to explore thanks to its innovative Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality. This lets you use the IONIQ 5 like a big power bank, to power any and every accessory when off grid and out in the wild. With a V2L port under the back seats that work when the IONIQ 5 is on, and a converted that can work even when the IONIQ 5 is off, you can charge practically anything, from a phone or laptop, coffee machine, or even an entire caravan!

In order to demonstrate the possibility of driving completely electrically and emission free, this month Hyundai launched Camp Zero, powered by IONIQ 5 in Sweden, an all-electric combination of Hyundai’s award winning electric car and a minimally designed caravan. Featuring the MINK Camper an aerodynamic, lightweight caravan, Camp Zero provides everything needed for adventures and the ultimate camping experience, including all the electrical amenities, which are of course powered by IONIQ 5 through V2L.
