Mazda is a brand that people know and love for their unique approach to design, driver focussed cars and premium features. Like many other manufacturers, Mazda is in the process of working towards a goal of electrifying their range, with new models and platforms in line with imminent bans on combustion engine models. In this blog, we will discuss the next two models to join their lineup this year.

Mazda 2 Hybrid

The first new model for 2022, is the Mazda 2 Hybrid, Mazda’s first self-charging hybrid. With its 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 59kW electric motor, to provide a total of 116hp, allowing the Mazda 2 Hybrid to reach 32mph in 9.7 seconds, customers will benefit from smooth and consistent power that you expect from a fully electric model, without having to worry about where you are going to charge it. Although this model runs on petrol, increasing fuel prices shouldn’t be an issue for this model, as it is capable of up to 74.3mpg, meaning that it will give you the most out of a single tank of fuel.

When you turn on the Mazda 2 Hybrid, it is automatically in EV mode, meaning that you get quiet and seamless driving in urban environments, with zero emissions. During normal driving, power is adjusted between the electric motor and petrol engine to get the best performance and fuel efficiency. This is all possible without recharging the battery, as it charges itself as the car decelerates and creates kinetic energy, which is turned into electrical energy and stored in the battery.

This car may be a supermini, but it doesn’t feel like it inside, as the wheels are at the far corners of the car, which helps to create a long 2,560 mm wheelbase. This makes the cabin a comfortable place for four adults and all their luggage, accommodated by the generous 286 litre boot. The Mazda 2 Hybrid comes with a maximum 5-star Euro-NCAP safety rating under the more stringent new testing procedures, which means that you are guaranteed the best possible protection if the worst happens.

The Mazda 2 Hybrid will be in showrooms from the start of June 2022, and is available in three grades, Pure, Agile and Select.Find out more about the Mazda 2 Hybrid here.

Mazda CX-60

Alongside the Mazda 2 Hybrid, is Mazda’s first Plug-In Hybrid, the CX-60. Previewed in April, the Mazda CX-60 will sit above the CX-5 in the range and act as Mazda’s new flagship model. Combining a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor and a 17.8kWh battery. This comes with a number of different benefits, firstly in regards to efficiency, as the CX-60 is capable of up to 188mpg on the WLTP cycle and 42 miles of pure electric driving. Not only this, but the combination of electric motors and petrol engine means the CX-60 has 323 bhp, propelling it to 62mph in just 5.8 seconds.

The CX-60 takes on the SUV form with beauty and elegance, utilising Mazda’s Kodo design language to covey strength, utility and practicality. The result is a dynamic and striking full sized SUV, which is really unique when compared to other competitors within its class.

The interior of the CX-60 takes premium craftsmanship to a new level, with human centric ergonomics at the centre of the design. With a mixture of materials and textures, it demonstrates Mazda’s Japanese heritage with the use of things like maple wood, reflect the Japanese Hacho aesthetic of asymmetrical balance or unintentional unevenness. Alongside this, the CX-60 is home to a plethora of safety technologies and extensive comfort features to make it a truly wonderful place to be on long journeys.

The CX-60 sits at the top of the Mazda range for now until the CX-80 is introduced to Europe at a later date, and it provides excellent space, with up to 570 litres of boot space making it significantly larger than competitors in its class. It also provides plenty of space for passengers, with its wheelbase being 200 mm longer than the already generous CX-5, making this an incredibly comfortable place to be, even for five adults.

The CX-60 will reach our showrooms later this year, find out more here!
