Racy Renault Laguna GT

In keeping with it's heritage for producing racy, affordable, great to drive cars Renault has created a sporty version of its all-new Laguna family car. To be called the GT, the cars come complete with four-wheel steering, an aggressive bodykit and high-performance engines. The car will be launched at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

The fresh-faced flagship is available as either a hatch or a Sport Tourer estate, and uses the firm's advanced Active Drive chassis. When travelling below 37mph, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to those at the front, increasing agility. But above this speed, they turn the same way to boost stability.

The new system promises to make the GT the most involving Laguna ever. It will initially be available only on this range-topper, although in the future it will join the options list for regular models. The GT comes with a powerful 202bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine or a 178bhp 2.0 dCi diesel. The former should deliver impressive performance, with the latter providing a strong blend of speed and economy, making it ideal as a company car.

To distinguish it apart from lesser models, the GT comes with its own distinctive look. A revised front bumper includes aggressive air intakes, and there's a bigger grille, too. New headlamps with a black background finish off the nose, while the smart 18-inch alloy wheels get bespoke Bridgestone tyres.

Custom side sills and black door mirrors are other clues to the Laguna's performance. At the back there are twin tailpipes and smoked rear lights.

The cabin has classy leather and Alcantara upholstery, with a GT logo embossed on the front seats. Other sporty cues include drilled aluminium pedals and a bespoke gearlever made from the same metal. The new flagship Laguna also gets its own unique sports steering wheel.

Acceleration and top speed figures have yet to be released, but the GT is fitted with uprated brakes to make the most of its improved handling and performance. It's set to go on sale in April, priced from around £23,000.

Maurice Wainwright, Dealer Principal at Holdcroft Hanley is excited about the new car, he said 'I can't wait for the new GT it looks phenomenal and will drive superbly'
